Interest in gliding within Western Australia dates back before 1930, for in 1930 the first flight of the Perth Gliding Club occurred at the Maylands Aerodrome.

The pages of this book provide a background to a great number of local stalwarts involved with the early days of gliding and details how they created a foundation for the sport to grow.

The photographs and drawings included in this book will give the reader a clear picture of the aircraft used up to the late nineteen fifties whether flying for sport or for the training of student pilots.

Many of the early gliding enthusiasts are not with us today and as time progresses more of our past gliding history will be lost with the passing of the last of these pioneers.

The authors are timely in capturing a great part of this past history of gliding in Western Australia before it fades from memory forever.

This book serves to commemorate those early pioneers of gliding within Western Australia. Their great achievements have made gliding the great sport that exists today.
